About Us
The BBB Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible. Since 1912, the BBB has fostered ethical marketplace conduct between businesses and consumers.
Now our Education Foundation is spreading the message of business and consumer ethics to schools and senior and community centers. But we can’t do it alone. We urge you to donate to the Education Foundation today. You can help us make a measurable difference by supporting the kind of innovation that helps prepare area teens for the rest of their lives. Will you?

C.O.R.E: Character, Optimism, Respect, Ethics
See What Students Are Saying About C.O.R.E.
“When we went over the scenarios, it made me realize that having good character matters.”
— sophomore, White Sulphur Springs High School
Why It Matters
In October 2010, the Josephson Institute of Ethics* surveyed nearly 40,000 U.S. high school students:
Ø 89% of teenagers believe that being a good person is more important than being rich.
Ø 92% believe their parents want them to do the right thing. And yet:
Ø 21% admitted stealing from a parent or other relative; 18% from a friend.
Ø 33% of boys and 25% of girls have stolen from a store in the past year.
Ø 33% of students confessed to using the Internet to plagiarize an assignment.
Ø 40% said they sometimes lie to save money.
Ø 59% admitted cheating on a test within the last year--34% more than twice.
Ø 80% confessed that they had lied to a parent about something significant.
A separate study by the Josephson Institute in October 2010 on bullying also found that while 33% of all high school students say that violence is a problem at their school:
Ø 50% admited to hitting another person in anger within the last year
Ø 16% have been intoxicated at school
Ø 10% say they have brought a weapon to school
These kids are our future business leaders, employees, and consumers. If they’re not exposed to ethics training, our future marketplace could become even worse than it is today. And by the way, 93% of the kids in the survey above said they were “satisfied” with their personal ethics.
How Does C.O.R.E Work?
One of the most important aspects of the CORE workshop is the statement that "We are what we do." Especially given the surveyed gap between what teens believe to be right and their self-reported actions. Knowing the right thing can be easy. Doing it takes courage.
Senior Scam Prevention
Educates seniors about scams which may taget them: Fake lotteries and sweepstakes, phony grandchildren, nonexistant Medicare plans, medical discount cards sold as insurance, and expensive "how-to" information which is available free.
Past presentations, some in cooperation with the Washington and Montana State Attorney Generals Offices and the Idaho Fraud Awareness Coalition, included:
AARP
The United Blind of Spokane
Catholic Charities’ Foster Grandparents program and
Various senior centers

This workshop was developed in support of the Financial Readiness Campaign to provide reliable consumer information for our Military Members and their Families.
