The Naughty List What is Naming Names about? Ethics and accountability. The Better Business Bureau seeks to advance marketplace trust by holding both BBB Accredited and non-accredited businesses accountable for their actions. Naming Names calls companies out by name for not answering consumer complaints during the previous month. This button can easily be added to your website and direct visitors to write a customer review on your BBB Business Review. Below are step-by-step instructions on how to install the Customer Review Button on your website! Why are BBB's Customer Reviews Better? BBB Customer Reviews are free and must be from a person who has had an interaction with your business. They cannot be done anonymously, and you are notified 24 hours prior to them going live so that you may respond or alert BBB that the review was not posted by a customer of yours. Get started! Go to your AB Only Page to log in. Choose 'Generate Your Customer Review Button' on the left hand side. Choose the Customer Review Button you like. Once chosen, the HTML code for your button will generate. Copy and paste the HTML code where you want it to appear on your website while in ‘edit mode’. BBB released an alert in January warning of misleading advertising practices by Spokane Valley credit card processor, Merchant Services Direct LLC. According to multiple complaints filed with BBB in the past year, consumers report that they were promised more savings than they received. According to an advertisement on MSD’s website, customers will ‘save 30-60% with whole sale processing,’ as well as, ‘guaranteed lowest rates in the industry.’ Complainants allege they were led to believe savings would be considerable enough to warrant switching from their current credit card processing company. BBB challenged these claims, requesting MSD to respond with the source that tangibly substantiates the statement that customers will ‘save 30-60% with whole sale processing,’ and the written guarantee supporting that they have the lowest rates in the industry. This challenge was part of the BBB’s ongoing local advertising review program. BBB identifies advertising claims that may be misleading and seeks cooperation from businesses to comply with the basic principles for truth in advertising in the BBB Code of Advertising. BBB reviews advertising of both BBB Accredited Businesses and non-accredited businesses, asking advertisers to substantiate, modify, or discontinue the claims. This alert was published by the Spokane Journal of Business and KHQ.
	Clearing the Air If there are any corrections or clarifications to make with any previous Naming Names releases, our policy is to post it and make it known in the next month’s Naming Names.
Naming Names summarizes our region’s complaints for the previous month. Businesses that are called out have either failed to answer consumer complaints filed with the BBB, or they have received a high volume of complaints. We encourage ethical business standards and hold both accredited and non-accredited businesses accountable. If any Accredited Business does not comply with our standards, the BBB suspends Accreditation and sends their status to the Board of Directors for review.
