 The Nice List
Our BBB offers customers the chance to write reviews about companies they’ve worked with. These are a few kind words we’ve seen about Accredited Businesses in the past month.

SCS Contracting (Spokane, WA)

I hired SCS Contracting to do 3 jobs over the last 3 years, and was impressed by all three. First I had a total kitchen remodel down to replacing drywall. The job was very well done and very thorough and legal with all necessary permits and inspections. The second job I had done was a landscaping project in which masonry was involved. It turned out much better than I had anticipated because the Contractor had great ideas that I chose to use. The third was a bit of drywall mudding, which was also done to my satisfaction. The clean up was excellent and the job also done very well. ~Cheryl M.

Tumlinson Building Service, Inc.(Yakima, WA)

We hired Tumlinson Building Service for a kitchen and bath remodel after receiving glowing recommendations from a friend. The bid was prompt and reasonable. The work was done quickly and well. Josh is dedicated, unintrusive and had the expertise needed for the job. He completed all aspects of the bid and made many important improvements along the way. The finished product? Great! We are very happy with the quality of work. The timetable was the opposite of all those commercials you see with contractors staying for weeks on end. Our "8-day project" was completed in just 7 days. And even with the changes we made to our initial plans, our final cost was lower than the initial bid. ~Paula W.

D and M Motors, Inc.(Ellensburg, WA)

Great shop, the owner was very helpful and kind. The techs knew what they were doing and also were very kind. They assessed my car for a problem I was having, initially stating that it would cost $39 for the inspection. After the diagnosis, the owner told me that since it was my first time into the shop, it would be a courtesy check. Further, I had blown my front CV joints and front axle. He recommended that I get that fixed, but did not pressure me to allow his company to do the work. I asked him for a quote, which was refreshing as it is usual to have a company shove their work down your throat. D & M offered a shuttle service for me to and from the shop to my apartment while the work was being done on my car. They even went above and beyond by washing my car after it's service. This is an excellent company, fairly priced, good mechanical skills and great customer service. ~Tori S.

Repeat Offenders

Repeat offenders are companies that have an excessive number of complaints closed within a month; not based on their responses to complaints. The following businesses had 5 or more complaints closed in the month of January.

Looking Forward… Tips You Can Trust

Protecting Data – Does Your Business Know What to Do?

In times of escalating privacy and data breaches, customers expect every business — large or small — to protect any sensitive, personal information that is collected. Better Business Bureau advises business owners to proactively address customer anxiety and takes steps to both prevent and prepare for a security breach. BBB has endorsed the Online Trust Alliance’s Data Protection and Breach Readiness Guide, recently updated for 2012

Last year, more than 125 million people were affected by data loss incidents. Increased awareness of these high visibility incidents, as well as aggressive data collection and sharing practices, have eroded consumers’ trust and online confidence, according to OTA.

“The Internet has become the land of opportunity for scams and, unfortunately, we see thousands of them every year,” notes Genie Barton, Vice President of the Council of Better Business Bureaus and director of its Online Behavioral Advertising Program. “Consumers need assurances that they can trust the companies they do business with to secure their data, and the OTA Data Protection and Breach Readiness Guide is a great tool to help businesses protect themselves and their customers.”

In the wake of a security breach, it’s important to take action quickly. Small and large businesses alike need to be able to readily determine the nature and scope of the data incident, and take all appropriate steps to contain and stop the attack.

For more data security advice you can trust, visit www.bbb.org/data-security, and if you would like to download  a complete OTA guide, visit https://otalliance.org/breach.html.

Clearing the Air

If there is a correction to make with any previous Naming Names releases or if there is an error that needs clarification or re-address, our policy is to post it and make it known in the next month’s Naming Names.

The following business was named in a previous Naming Names but has addressed the complaint in question:

Naming Names summarizes our region’s complaints for the previous month. Businesses that are called out have either failed to answer consumer complaints filed with the BBB, or they have received a high volume of complaints. We encourage ethical business standards and hold both accredited and non-accredited businesses accountable.

If any Accredited Business does not comply with our standards, the BBB suspends Accreditation and sends their status to the Board of Directors for review. Corrections and clarifications to previous Naming Names are welcome. Please send any questions or comments to info@spokane.bbb.org.
